Blackfriars’ ornate medieval Banquet Hall was the celebrated venue used by King Edward III to receive royal Scot, Edward Balliol, in 1334 and boasts authentic and bespoke banners, chandeliers, wall coverings, stained-glass windows, reclaimed wooden screens, large oak dining tables and matching chairs, all created by local craftsmen. Housed within a Grade 1 Listed Building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, Blackfriars Restaurant opened in 2001 and has been in the same ownership ever since. The restaurant has held a AA Rosette for almost two decades and is recommended by the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide. The restaurant has also won many awards including Taste of the North East and is now one of the most recognised and reputed restaurants in Newcastle. The ground floor comprises the main restaurant, a stunning self contained Banquet Hall and an ornate Parlour Bar for early arrivals and drinks receptions as well as a sheltered courtyard. On the first floor the Tasting Room is housed within one of the former guild meeting rooms, as is the state-of-the-art Cookery School and other meeting rooms. The former friary, courtyard and gardens provide the perfect picture-postcard setting for your photographs. Blackfriars is approved by Newcastle City Council for marriages and civil partnerships so you can enjoy both your ceremony and reception in one place. We have dedicated wedding coordinators to help your day and take care of all your wants and needs. Blackfriars is able to accommodate most wedding formats. Just imagine the ceremony of your dreams in our ornate Banquet hall or unique Tasting Room, followed by a relaxed Champagne reception in the sheltered courtyard or historic Parlour Bar before heading back into the Banquet hall for a delicious and memorable wedding breakfast and evening party. Blackfriars really does have it all and it is the perfect venue for your big day!

At Blackfriars we operate on a minimum spend basis. The minimum spend is based on the day of the week and time of day you choose to book your wedding. All package or bespoke costs go towards meeting the minimum spend figure. For example; a Monday day time only wedding holds a minimum spend of £1000 and all package or bespoke costs go towards this figure. All costs can be found in our wedding flyer - upon request.

Blackfriars were amazing from start to finish with the wedding planning. They always got back to us really quickly with any small question we had and were accommodating with all our requests. The food was incredible and there was plenty of it! The location is bang in the middle of Newcastle too which makes it easy for guests to get nearby accommodation. Thanks for all you help! My partner and I got married at Blackfriars on Monday and had an absolutely fantastic day. We had the whole day there, ceremony, breakfast and evening do and everything was perfect. The staff were amazing and looked after us and our guests so well. Everyone commented on how lovely the food was too. We really couldn't recommend this venue enough. They really make sure your special day is exactly that. Rachel helped out with every query and request on the run up and Ellie ran the day impeccably.
