The most unusual cakes are always the ones that draw attention, and I remember setting up one which replicated a stary night sky. It was at rather a busy venue and the whole time I was setting up there were people stopping behind me to marvel at it!
Varied (that's what keeps it fun!), Classic, Rustic, Personalised, Bespoke
The fact that I have created it from nothing. To now be running a successful wedding cake business 4 years on from my starting point is something I am still only just getting my head around! I also love the fact that I am able to promote the message of animal welfare through just doing what I love - my girls (ex-battery hens) have never been so famous and are just as spoilt as ever, something they truly deserve after their rough start in life.
Excel is your new best friend. By logging and budgeting everything, you can keep track of payments made and ones that will be due, this not only helps you to stay organised but also keep track of budget. Can I give two tips? Second would be get on pinterest! I don't know what else it's useful for in life but it's ideal for wedding planning!
Oh gosh there are just so many, I love how they are all so different. I once saw a display table in the reception drinks area with a whole array of family photos of loved ones who couldn't be there on the day, which I thought was a lovely touch, and a great talking/focal point during those lulls at weddings during the photos where everyone is making polite conversation!
I meet most couples through wedding fayres on online, so that is usually the first point of contact. Then once we are in touch we exchange a few emails so establish my availability, then meet for a coffee and a chat. I find this the best way to discuss the numerous options, as it's so much easier to discuss in person. I bring my portfolios and ask the couple to bring a selection of photos they like and we go from there! Samples of my sponge can also be provided for couples who havent tried it at wedding fayres, so you can see for yourself how my hens fresh eggs make all the difference for the perfect sponge. So please do get in touch to arrange your no-obligation consultation. stablecottagecakes@gmail.com
Is there such a thing? They are all so different which is what I love about sugar craft. No two weddings are the same and no two cakes should be either - keep your wedding as unique as you are :)
Now here's a good question - so many come to mind! The most unusual one has to be a quirky halloween wedding cake I delivered recently, where the sugar skull topper was designed to leak edible blood down the cake on the cake cutting - it was such fun to see the video afterwards and here the gasps from the guests! Entirely the couples idea and such an original one.
A rather unconventional route, and certainly a roundabout one. Long story short my grandparents made us the most amazing birthday cake creations growing up, and my love for the creative side certainly stemmed from there. Cake design is more a form of art than anything and this just appeals so much to my creative nature.
Personally i really love the classic wedding cakes and you just cant beat delicate sugar flowers that replicate your bouquet - I would hope to wow Paul Hollywood with my paper thin rose petals but I'm not sure I would manage with the time limits - I tend to get wrapped up in my work, and often work until silly times of night which I cant imagine would go down very well on that show!
