I delivered a cake to Lake Windermere last summer. I was the most glorious sunny weekend. After I delivered and set up the cake and saw the beautiful couple I checked into another hotel and stayed overnight. I climbed Scafell Pike the following day and it was my best climb up there ever. I love the travel & diversity my job brings.
Unique, Contemporary, Unconventional, Stylish, Luxury
Starting a brand new business from scratch and making it a success. I am definitely not from a business background so it seemed like a huge challenge but I've loved every minute of it! I particularly love my amazing couples. Everyone is different and I've loved working with them all. Some have even become good friends!
Book your preferred suppliers early! Once you have a date and a venue sorted then start booking. It's never too early. You can sort out the final details later but if you leave it too late to get your suppliers booked you may miss the chance to work with those you really connect with. Most popular photographers, florists, cake designers are booked months if not years in advance.
Seeing an empty chair at the front of a ceremony with a single rose on it. It was for a mum who was no longer around. Sad and poignant, yet uplifting.
It starts with your email enquiry. If I am still free on your wedding date then we can discuss rough design, theme and size of the cake. I would then go on to offer a face to face wedding cake consultation which lasts for around an hour. During the consultation you can sample some cake flavours and we can discuss your cake design in depth. If you live a long distance away I can offer a Skype consultation and I can post out a wedding cake sample box. The cost of my wedding cake consultation is £25 which is then deducted from your wedding cake balance if you go on to book with me. You can hold your date with a £100 booking fee.
A stylish cake with lots of texture and a bold statement flower. My personal favourite cake flavour is Sicilian lemon, I love the sharpness of the lemon against the sweetness of the buttercream.
A cake with lots of colour and texture and with sugar macrame decorations, Very chic yet boho. I loved it.
I started out making birthday cakes but loved a tall tiered cake as it can have more design elements across several tiers. I started to get requests for weddings to my birthday and celebration cake business so I opened Urban Cakehouse as a wedding cake design studio and I have never looked back
A 5 or 6 tier cake, each tier would have a different flavour and filling. The cake would be a dark colour; navy, black or dark aubergine and it would be highly textured. It would be decorated with a cascade of huge brightly coloured statement sugarpaste flowers and sculpted wafer paper. I would finish it off by dressing the cake table with a fabulous bespoke cake stand on a funky podium with an airplant hanging installation, in the same dark colour as the cake, above it. Surely old blue eyes would give me a handshake for that?! Lol
