Message from the team

Name of Wedding Contact: Gordon Callander
I manage the group and perform in all the various styles of music so would be present from setup till the end of the night and have over 30 years experience of performing at weddings and events. I initially started the group simply to have a single advert in yellow pages for 3 different groups that I already played with and was surprised that so many people actually wanted all 3 groups at the same wedding, so I re-configured the groups a little and we have now done over 1200 weddings and events

NES have a unique range of different entertainment types to suit different tastes & budgets. They are flexible, approachable and reliable. Great musicians too . Our Ceilidh & Disco represented tremendous value for money.

These guys were absolutely fantastic. We booked them for our wedding after seeing them perform at a friends wedding, and loving what they did. Exceedingly talented, versatile musicians, but also lovely people and great professionals. Really excellent value for money in an industry where it must be tempting to over-charge. Nothing was too much trouble and we had prompt responses to emails and enquiries in the run up to the wedding. They really went out of their way on the day to make things special for us and ensured everything ran smoothly. This was despite the dreadful weather and technical challenges of performing in a field! They even came earlier than they needed to in order to set up the microphone and sound system so that it could be used for the speeches. Friendly and helpful service. Great fun Ceilidh which gets everyone up and dancing. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Gordon was excellent in helping us plan the music for our big day. He made sure he was clear on the music we wanted and sorted everything out on the day with the vicar/wedding coordinator. We didn't have to be involved with the daytime activity at all, which was perfect. The music was great and our guests really enjoyed themselves. Gordon and his musicians were simply spectacular. The music they played complemented each part of the day perfectly and helped us to have that extra level of class to an already amazing day. There was no fuss, and they played flawlessly throughout - at times it was that good I forgot it was a live group of musicians rather than a polished CD. All in all they were a pleasure to deal with and I'd recommend them to anybody

The Ceilidh Knights put on an excellent performance at our wedding reception. Gordon was very helpful, accommodating and quick to reply to any questions we had in advance of the wedding.

Wonderful ceilidh band, most of our guests were Scottish and thought it was the best ceilidh bands they have heard. Great that we could pick the dances we like best. The dances were well called and created a great atmosphere. We have had so many compliments from our guests about the band.

Nothing was too much for this happy band of players. As well as their own repertoire, they readily played some impromptu requests amidst their ceilidh pieces. A memorable night for all concerned.

They were very professional and accommodated my needs by composing the song I wanted from scratch. The songs they played were lovely and really fitted in with the theme I wanted

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Our own

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Friendly Relaxed Professional Versatile Accommodating

What about your business are you most proud of?

When a Bride and or Groom comes up to me at the end of the night and gives me a hug - I know that we've done well and helped make a day they will never forget.

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Relax and enjoy every step along the way and especially enjoy the day. Don't worry about making the perfect decisions, just enjoy the whole journey together.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Bride and Groom driving guests home in a mini-bus

Describe your typical process with a couple.

We receive an enquiry and reply with price and details of what we do. If that is a good fit then we accept a deposit of £100 to secure the date and ask for a simple Booking Form to be completed. I update the Form with any payments that are made and send a copy back. We discuss the music requirements and times as the plans take shape and discuss which tunes are to be played when. I arrange all the music and sort the players. Payment is due the week before the wedding so that everything is all sorted and we can all relax and enjoy the day. We perform and everyone has a lovely day.

What makes a romantic first dance?

2 people in love! Nobody cares what the music is. Nobody cares if there is a fantastic dance routine. Everyone just wants to see 2 happy people that want to be together and that's it.

What is your number one floor-filler?

A Ceilidh! But for a disco - Uptown Funk is a good all rounder. Other great tunes work sometimes but not always.

Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?

There have been so many inspirational performers and bands over the years but you never know what it's like to have to hide backstage then go back on the tour bus to the next hotel thinking... I wish I knew what it felt like to be free! A wedding band doesn't need to hide and I love meeting people and performing different music every afternoon and night then back home again.

What is the soundtrack to your life?

Ceilidh tunes and dances for as long as I can remember in Primary School. Since playing String Quartets for weddings - it's Pachelbel's Canon (over a thousand times so far) but it's still a great tune!
