Picking a favourite wedding is like picking a favourite child (or pet, in my case!) - they are all special and I'm lucky to get to do what I do for a living. I love that there's always something new to experience, ven this far into shooting weddings.
Creative, modern, unconventional, natural, fun
All of it really - that I get to call this my job still 6 years after photographing my first ever wedding.
When booking your photographer, make sure you find one you love, and who you connect with. It means you don't need to micromanage them, or send them Pinterest lists, but instead you can have lots of fun confident that they will capture your day the way you want.
So, I like to meet everyone I work with, either in person or often via Skype, and we chat, not just about the technicalites of the wedding, but about the two of you, and how you see the day going down. I want to hear how much fun everyone's going to have, not about your colour schemes! I provide lots of help and guidance with planning your photography to take up minimal time, but deliver the images that are important to you, including an engagement shoot (if you want one) to get to know each other better, so that we are all ready to be awesome on the day.
I don't think there is any #1 photo, in fact those kind of lists are the bane of my life a little but what I think should happen is that you find a photographer you trust enough to capture the important moments, but more than that, one who you know will make everything beautiful regardless of what happens rather than applying a cookie cutter approach.
Preparation and a willingness to embrace it! Buy some brollies, don your wellies and get out in it, or let your photographer suggest alternative dry locations.
I started off learning film photography on my Art Foundation course before heading off to study Fashion at Kingston University, after that it was always a hobby but people kept saying 'why don't you try weddings' - so I did, and in my first year shot 7, 6 of which were featured in magazines and on blogs and it just grew from there until I was able to leave my job as a fashion buyer to focus exclusively on weddings!
