I must say that the one that stands out was both beautiful and sad. The wedding of a young bride who was very ill and passed away a few weeks after her special day. The day was filled with all the joy and happiness that weddings have and it was a joy to film. Three weeks later I was informed of her passing and was given a card written by the bride before her passing thanking me for the memories I had made of her for her husband and family and it included a photograph of myself with the bride and groom taken on the day of the wedding. Such a happy/bittersweet wedding. One I will never forget.
I made a headmaster cry. In a good way. Along with weddings I also film other productions and one that holds dear to me is an education promo that unfortunately could not be completed due to the passing of the headmaster. I was hired to film video prospectuses for an education authority and filmed a demo promo to show the headmaster what could be achieved. He was so overwhelmed with joy at how 'amazing I made his pupils look' that he broke down into tears of joy. Sadly he passed away a few months later from a sudden and serious illness. He was a proud and caring man and I am proud to say that my work brought to him tears of joy in the last few months of his life.
Do not view Videography as a last addition of suppliers. Realise that when your day is over the ONLY way to relive the moments you cherish, the moments you missed, relatives past and the speeches spoken is through your Videographer.
Whether we would have met at a wedding fayre or simply via email or telephone, I would arrange a meeting to discuss in depth what a couple want from their video. Once this has been confirmed at the meeting I would then send the couple the contract to read through before committing. Once the contract is signed and received an invoice for a deposit of 20% of a chosen package price would be sent to the couple, including multiple details of payment types. This deposit would secure the video services for their wedding, with the remainder to be paid up to two weeks prior to the wedding date. During this interim time I would be available for further discussion and planning of the wedding day at the convenience of the couple.
The one film I wish I had directed would be La La Land. This is because it used technically co-ordinated visuals, an emotional and vibrant musical score and a cognitive script that complemented each other perfectly in a way that wouldn't have worked without such attention to detail. It's beautiful to watch and to listen to. It's a film that any cinematographer would wish to be a part of.
Every wedding is different because every couple is different. Aside from the chosen accompanying music by the bride and groom, my chose of soundtrack would be bespoke to the day and entirely depend on the wedding footage 'feel'.
I 'got into videography' at the early age of six when my father explained to me that Christopher Reeves' Superman was on wires. Amazed at how this was achieved I spent my entire education leaning towards the creative and artistic classes. After secondary school every qualification earned was related to either Video Production, Media, Writing (scripts, stories etc.), Audio-Visuals, Photography, Cinematography, Filming and more. My first degree was within the Arts for Filming and my second degree was in the Sciences for technologies in film production. I have always wanted to be behind a camera and edit suite and I still have the same passion for the craft that I had when I began many years ago.
