Clearwell Castle, nestled within the natural beauty of the Forest of Dean, is a dreamlike award-winning wedding venue. A fairy tale land just 45 minutes from Bristol, the castle can host both civil ceremonies and receptions in its gorgeous Ballroom and it can accommodate up to 250 guests for the reception and party. The whole property can be yours for a day, or even two.

- MMr and Mrs Farrington09/11/2019Perfect day at a dream venuePerfect day at a dream venueOur wedding at Clearwell Castle went so smoothly and every detail was perfect! We were blown away by the amount of effort that all the staff put in, making sure that the smallest of requested details was correct. We visited several times in the run up to our wedding and spoke to the team at the Castle frequently, which made it a lot easier to plan and a lot more fun! Our personal wedding manager, Lottie, was amazing. It made me feel so much more confident to know that she was there to keep everything running correctly - and she did an amazing job! The day unfolded so seamlessly, with no stresses or input from us, so we relaxed and enjoyed the day. The food was lovely, can't speak highly enough of that. The downstairs bar and dance floor for the evening do is great, and it's really nice to have a few separate rooms for people who find the disco a bit overwhelming. Good to have the food away from the dance floor in the evening as well! All in all, a simply beautiful day and a wonderful experience. Couldn't recommend more highly! We picked Clearwell Castle as we wanted a venue with exclusive use where we could have the ceremony and reception. We were so lucky and had unexpected amazing weather on our day. The venue, accommodation, food, service and evening do exceeded all our expections.. !! The accommodation the night before our wedding was lovely also and meant that we could enjoy time with our loved ones, relax and unwind in the hot tub and also meant that there was no stress on the morning because we were already at the venue.. !! Our wedding coordinator and house manager Ann Danter was absolutely incredible pre wedding, during and post wedding ensuring that our day ran smoothly and to order.. !! Thank you again Ann. xxxxx We had the most beautiful day here at Clearwell Castle for our winter wedding.. !! The venue, accommodation, food, service and evening do exceeded all our expections.. !! My Scottish fiancé (now husband!) and I were unsure whether to marry in Gloucestershire or up in Scotland - but we fell in love with the gorgeous venue when we attended an open day there and booked our date immediately. Clearwell Castle offers packages for certain dates which include many of the things you need (DJ, three-course meal for 60 guests, etc) which takes the stress out of sourcing other suppliers for everything and reduces the cost of the wedding - which as everyone knows can be huge. We were also provided with a wedding planner, Louise, who from the moment we met was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC at helping us with any query we had leading up to the big day - nothing was ever too much trouble. Sorting out all the finer details wasn't even remotely stressful for Deryk or myself - in fact I became a BrideChilla rather than a Bridezilla!! The Castle itself is beautiful, nestled in gorgeous grounds within the Forest of Dean, Gloucesershire - and its 75-ft aisle in the ballroom (where the ceremony is held) is breathtaking. Evening receptions are held downstairs in the glittering Cellar Bar (in years gone by a recording studio for Led Zeppelin and Queen amongst others). There are 15 beautiful bedrooms for guests in the Castle and also additional accommodation nearby. Many of our guests commented that it was 'the best wedding they have ever been to' - everyone was so happy, the staff were friendly, professional and attentive, we were permitted to have our Scottish Ceilidh for the evening entertainment, and the food was delicious (Clearwell's chefs are extremely talented). The chef even arranged a special haggis-based canape at our request! Clearwell Castle has so many fabulous places for photos, we cannot wait to have all our official ones back. Our wedding planner helped and encouraged us with all the special little touches we wanted to include in our day (a bridal speech, unicorn themes and colours, the wonderful Gloucestershire Magician) and made them all happen. The full bar and the night porter also allowed those of us staying in the Castle to continue relaxing after hours. I can't thank Louise and the staff enough - I would urge anyone looking to marry in or around Gloucestershire to snap up your date at Clearwell Castle without delay. We are absolutely over the moon. The whole day was just beautiful and couldn’t have gone any better with the help of our wedding planner assuring the day goes smoothly without us having to stress or worry what’s happening next. We cannot thank Clearwell enough, and I wish I could relive the day again just to sit and smile. Thankfully we had a videographer to capture the day perfectly which we watch regularly and even now we still shed a tear with a huge smile on our faces. We are so proud to say “we got married in a Castle” it’s something we would have never imagined, the day we stepped inside to view as a potential venue, well what can I say, we were floored and there was no debate where we were becoming Husband and Wife. Almost 2 years on and our wedding is still a regular topic of conversation remembering the beautiful Castle and grounds everyone is still on cloud 9. Many a time but sadly we have to keep the who and the when to ourselves!
What’s your favourite canapé?
Rare peppered roast beef served in a mini Yorkshire pudding with a horseradish cream mousse! Yum!
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
The night porters cheese on toast with a splash of Worcestershire sauce – a classic and a favourite for lots.
What is your venue's most unique feature?
Our beautiful ballroom; the perfect ceremony location with its 75-foot aisle giving a grand entrance. The Ballroom exudes elegance. A feature fireplace, high ceilings, arched windows with views in to the grounds. The backdrop for the ‘I do’s’.
